UNDERSTANDING SCIATICA ⚡️

UNDERSTANDING SCIATICA ⚡️

Sciatica has two main causes:
☝️ A herniated or “slipped” disc in L4 and S1 region
✌️ Piriformis syndrome where the piriformis muscle, a powerful lateral rotator of the leg, gets very tight and compresses the sciatic nerve.

Symptoms can be brutal! 😫 Pain and numbness in one (or both) legs, radiating to the foot/toes with increased pain with raising the leg or foot.

WHAT CAN YOU DO ABOUT IT❓

I might not be able to help with a herniated disc, but I certainly can help reduce your pain from piriformis syndrome. Using deep tissue massage to release the trigger points in the piriformis can significantly relieve the sciatic pain.

Stretching to lengthen the muscle is also extremely effective in decreasing the pain.

If you can’t get in for a massage, have a go with a tennis or golfball to apply firm pressure to the trigger points of the piriformis 👍
